My revising has changed at an exponential level over the course of this semester. I went into the school year never doing true revisions before and just passing in whatever the first thing that I type may be. I never had any idea what I was doing when it came to revise and just used spell check just before it came time to print out the essay. After the first essay I started to realize I needed to start editing much more then I was. I kept using spell check of course to make sure I was spelling everything properly, but I started to view all of the sentences I had wrote in order to have it flow the best it could. This could be basic structure or even the wording and the way things are explained in the sentence. The next helpful thing was viewing other people’s work in peer reviews which taught me how to give others advice and see what they could do better. This was helpful for me as it also showed me what I could do better in my own essay based on what my peer had wrote or what I had suggested them to change as I would have a similar item to change in my own essay. There were also the large-scale changes such as the entire topic or my thesis. I had learned that changing my thesis wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. I had changed my thesis so many different times to find one that made better sense then the other which changed what quotes to use, the wording of my sentences, and what my overall topic was. Changing the topic was tough though because when I get an idea in my head I usually try to stick with it no matter what. Opening up to new ideas and new ways of thinking helped show me the broader picture though and take my writing to a higher level than it used to be at. This all shows the development of my thought process over time and how it went from extremely basic high school equivalent work to the work of a college student. Learning how to think for yourself and not just follow a prompt, be able to do your own work and not just go off a teachers advice, and be able to thoroughly revise your own work and others is the ability of a collage student.
